The Bridge - A piece of Collingsworth County History
A historical documentary on the crossings at the Salt Fork of the Red River in Collingsworth County is centered around the importance of the first truss bridge on U.S. 83 Highway crossing the river. Through interviews with eight longtime residents, the documentary covers a historical perspective from the time of early settlers through the demolition of the truss bridge and the construction of the new bridge. Stories include the Bonnie and Clyde incident, the wreck of 1949, the dance floor, tourist courts, construction of the highway, the Depression era, river parties, and Native American artifacts just to name a few. The Bridge is a Collingsworth County Museum project produced by Neal Odom, Pioneer Business Development, LLC.
Hamblen Drive: From Buffalo Trail to State Highway
The story of Hamblen Drive is more than 120 years old. It might have ended in 1905. But one man did not give up. William Henry Hamblen faced great challenges, an epic story is told in this documentary.
The Hamblen Drive documentary is another historical production by Neal Odom, who is an owner of PBD Production (Pioneer Business Development, LLC). Both Neal and Plains Trail Board Member, Vicki Hamblen, grew up in Happy, Texas, and both of their great-grandfathers, who were also friends, were early pioneer settlers in the Texas Panhandle. The documentary covers many aspects of the history and heritage of the road crossing the Palo Duro Canyon and the early life of those who settled the High Plains. "I think most people will be surprised by some of the information revealed in this documentary," says Neal Odom.
